“Fear is nothing more than a story that has not been investigated internally. We haven’t known how, and now we do.”
— Byron Katie

Hi, I'm Kathryn

... and I am the worst academic to ever defend a PhD, because all of my studying, my research, and the 'intelligence' I was so praised for led me to this realization:
the mind does not hold any wisdom.

Sessions

Working with me

I've spent my life studying the mind and human nature. What I found took me beyond what we call mind. Now, it's my dearest desire to share this work with people so they, too, can discover this vast field of aware intelligence that is where all wisdom, self-knowledge and solutions are found.

_____________

What to expect from our work together

You will learn a very practical, specific tool that will let you do four essential things:

    1)    Become aware of what you are thinking and believing

    2)   Question those thoughts and beliefs

    3)   Experience the emergence of your own deep, inherent intelligence

    4)   Enter the present moment

Our work together will enable you to eventually continue with self-inquiry practice on your own. Awareness unfolds the more you practice.

I use Byron Katie’s The Work©, a practice I became certified in over ten years ago. It’s simply the most profound and effective practice I’ve ever discovered in my thirty years of researching and personally testing ways of working with the mind to find clarity and peace.

You can expect profound insights at every session. This work cuts to the heart of the matter. It takes time to learn the practice but the awareness does not take time. You can think of it as finally getting to know yourself ... underneath all of the ideas you have developed about yourself over the course of your life.

It is possible for you to directly experience what your mind is and who you are in relation to mind.

And as Katie says, We all have equal wisdom; anyone with an open mind can do this work

It would be an honour to work with you.

What people are experiencing

“Kathryn Jefferies has simply altered and transformed my life for the very best. Who knew (certainly not me) that Kathryn (nor really anyone) could so instinctively and masterfully inquire so effectively- at the exact right time- discussing my most vulnerable insights. She is intelligent, empathetic, professional and a lifesaver. I have learned to be accountable and live a much more fulfilling, purposeful and most importantly, peaceful life. Thank you Kathryn for your patience, flexibility and wisdom.” Shannon Sullivan

"Working with Kathryn has been the most insightful and transformative experience for our family. As parents trying to support our son’s mental and emotional health, we felt like we were in a never ending cycle of worry, stress, turmoil, helplessness and exhaustion. Our experience of The Work, as facilitated by Kathryn has been profound. Her deep compassion and insight into the mind has been enormously helpful and has created a shift in all of us. Having Kathryn guide us through self-inquiry has allowed us to question and move through our non-stop loop of distressing thoughts and beliefs. (These include thoughts about our role as parents, our worries about our son, our fear of his ability to cope with the future and on and on …)! We now all feel like we have so much more awareness, clarity and above all, more peace. Nothing has brought more help and significant change to our family than Kathryn’s insights, kind energy, authentic nature and knowledge of The Work. As she has helped us see time and again “our children are here to teach us … and they are not changing until we do." Leslie F

"Kathryn brings a gentle and kind energy to The Work that allowed me feel comfortable, like I was connecting with a long-time friend. Her experience and knowledge in The Work is extensive. Kathryn opened the space and trust for me to dive in to memories/illusions of the past, present and future. I have done The Work before and had past images arise but didn’t spend much time there. Kathryn was able to encourage me to bring my insights of today to the past situations which provided a new found curiosity and light that was nearly mind-blowing for me. I got insights from both myself and her that helped me. Having someone, like Kathryn, to witness and support me and my work has been valuable. Hearing insights echoed back and being able to read insights that Kathryn had written from our time together was incredibly validating and valuable. Some I hadn’t remembered until seeing them written down.  Something about Kathryn just feels safe. I would recommend her to any family, friends, neighbours 😉 that are looking to do The Work. Can’t wait until she runs a retreat!!!!" Grace W-P

"In my sessions with Kathryn, I was able to deeply experience — for myself — exactly where and how I was in a habitual pattern of resistance to mental and emotional experiences that were arising. With her deep insight and support, I was able to directly experience the blissful release that comes with letting the grip of thinking let go of me. It was truly liberating on a profound level – and has allowed me to discover an uninhibited, natural confidence to move forward in this life in a much freer and more truthful way. I am deeply grateful for Kathryn’s support, wisdom and incredible capacity to hold a space where the truth beyond thinking can be clearly recognized.”     Laura Shaw, Counselor

"Dr. Kathryn Jefferies is and has a true gift. She is innately compassionate, caring and kind. Her gentle spirit is evident in her practice, and she takes the time to listen and guide me through The Work in an authentic, nurturing, and supportive way. She hears and validates me as I talk and then tenderly offers an opportunity to have me question the thoughts that I am thinking. The Work doesn’t just enable me to see things from a different perspective, it also gives me the opportunity to set my own self free. It’s not in anyone else’s hands and that gives me a sense of autonomy that feels so empowering. It takes a knowing in your soul that the way you’ve been doing things just isn’t working anymore and a desire to truly want to feel better. Kathryn offers the tools to help you see another way and find that feeling. We are all telling ourselves stories of how our lives have been and how they will always be. Those stories come from small and often really big things that have happened in our lives. The reason The Work works is because when you start to unbelieve the stories, then it frees up space for a new, better feeling story to come forth. It makes it hard to continue believing that the pain is better than feeling good. I identify as having struggled with the symptoms of a “Borderline Personality Disorder” that developed from an early age as I processed a series of difficult events that have happened in my life. It’s very hard for me to let things go that trigger me and remind me of that early suffering. I’ve tried countless therapies and medications to bring me relief from the pain of it. I’m sure those methods have all helped me to get to where I am today and in feeling a sense of reprieve from the pain, however, in the past 3 months since working with Dr. Jefferies, I have been able to find a release from that anguish in ways I had never thought possible. It’s been so liberating. I am starting to see that situations arise, and thoughts come in to give me opportunities to heal the things that I have not yet healed. I see that there is nothing that isn’t meant for me and everything happens for a reason. I know now that I have the ability to see things in ways that feel good and to not believe that the ache is meant for me anymore. I am still wanting to find more ways of questioning the painful thoughts as they enter my mind, especially after a lifetime of suffering, so I plan to continue using Kathryn’s services for the foreseeable future to help me get to where I know I want to and can be… freedom from that suffering. It feels good to feel good and we all deserve that. Kathryn is the perfect woman to guide us all there." Sarah M

"I’ve watched my mom’s reaction to my anaphylactic reactions transform with her practice of The Work. As a little kid, I watched her be moved from a panicked adrenaline state. As I got older and the same reactions kept sending me to the hospital, I was hugely grateful and amazed by her shift  into moving from a place of calm dedication. Even her internal groundedness made my experience of the “emergency” lighter, but she went beyond that (as she always seems to) and was able to facilitate me in the midst of it all. And then two amazing things happened. My own panic subsided and was replaced with curiosity and openness, and my body stopped reacting for the first time ever without any medication. That experience (and others like it that have happened since) showed me the power of thinking, and the power of having someone who is clear there to hold space.  My mom’s ability to be present with the things that cause most of us to stick our heads in the sand and coax the scared mind compassionately into the light of the present moment is a rare gift. That, paired with her depth of intelligence and wisdom, makes her guidance in inquiry a powerful encounter with truth and healing. My biggest windfalls of clarity and peace have been with my mom as my shepherd, walking me through the night and into the light (or reality, in other words). Bella Frances (my daughter)

Self-inquiry

What is self-inquiry?

In Western culture our schools, societal constructs, and even family units teach us to look outside ourselves for everything. They teach us to look outside ourselves for love, belonging, our definitions of success, joy, and most of all: answers.

We learn as little schoolchildren that the very last source we should ever turn to for guidance is ourselves.

We learn to outsource our knowing.

Well, self-inquiry is the polar opposite of this. I practice a form of self-inquiry known as

The Work of Byron Katie, a sequence of four deceptively simple questions and the turnarounds.

With The Work, you're asking yourself the question and meditating on it. It's a practice in stillness because we're not used to be still in our minds; they are used to running amok.

You're just noticing what's true for you. You're the person we're consulting here. Not another person, a book, a podcast, a teacher, a religious leader ... nobody but you, probably for the first time in your life.

And it's not the thinking-mind you're going to for the answers, either. Inquiry is noticing, not thinking. That's the difference. Noticing what's true in your own experience. Most of us don't know there's anything other than thinking; but, here's the rub: we don't know that we think that. Not until we experience something different.

Inquiry differs from other forms of meditation in that it engages directly with the mind instead of trying to quiet it. It welcomes the truth of what you are experiencing without trying to make it different. Here there is no numbing or controlling, and that's what makes it such a powerful tool for real transformation.

With the open mind, this practice in stillness becomes everything we drive ourselves crazy looking for in all the wrong places. The experience of our true nature as relaxed, present and just simply happy to be alive.

As Katie puts it: Who would you be without your story?

Earth and Space
PRAISE FOR THE WORK

“Byron Katie’s Work is a great blessing for our planet. The root cause of suffering is identification with our thoughts, the ‘stories’ that are continuously running through our minds.

Byron Katie’s Work acts like a razor-sharp sword that cuts through that illusion and enables you to know for yourself the timeless essence of your being. Joy, peace, and love emanate from it as your natural state. In Loving What Is, you have the key. Now use it.”

- ECKHART TOLLE, author of A New Earth

"Byron Katie's The Work is the single most powerful psychological and spiritual tool I've ever encountered."

- MARTHA BECK, PhD, author of Finding Your Own North Star, and, Steering by Starlight

"Byron Katie has rocked my world and shaken loose my mind more thoroughly than any other spiritual teacher I've ever encountered, living or dead."

~

"The only real transformation I've experienced has been through the 12 Steps Program and The Work of Byron Katie."
